Got recycling? Well now we have the a way to take a lot more at the curb. This fall we began offering both a 65-gallon and a 95-gallon cart for recycling at home. There is no longer the need to fight with several small containers each week. You can now fit it into large cart with wheels and roll it to the curb all in one shot!

Currently this program is only available to Fort Collins residents living IN CITY limits, but will be expanding to other areas we provide the service some time in the fall 2010 or earlier if possible.

Over the coming months, we will be converting our pickup schedule from weekly curbside recycling to Every-Other-Week (EOW) recycling, with the addition of the large carts. Please be sure to consider this when you make your cart size selection.

Why the change to EOW? Communities operating this way have been able to recognize better cost efficiencies and reduce their impact on the environment by changing to this or a 2 x monthly service. It is no secret that local recycle routes do not cover the costs of providing the services.  The past year has seen a recycle market tumble that has resulted in the adddition of a tipping fee in some areas of the country! To help us combat this inconvenience, the larger carts will allow us to pickup even more recyclables at less the frequency which will reduce our emissions by around 50%!

The new Fort Collins city ordinance allows for haulers to pickup recycling as few times as twice monthly , but we feel the EOW approach will be easier to follow and results in two additional pickups per year. As we get closer to the move, we will send out a pickup schedule that will identify your weeks for recycling pickup for the year. In addition, we will release a new recycle guide with up-to-date information that will help you maximize your recycling participation.
